HV Infrastructure Upgrade
The scope of works includes a full design specification and procurement of the Hawker Siddeley Eclipse 11Kv switchroom as well as the LV and HV cable design.
Our design team managed all subcontract packages including the interface with UKPN and the university design consultants. Construct 2 no. reinforced concrete switch room buildings and install new High Voltage switchgear to include cable pits, blast proof doors, resin floors, low voltage lighting, power and heating.
Specialist Earthing Design was implemented, including site 10mtr Piled Marconite Earth Rod, linear Earthing to extended site. Earthing requirements to switch rooms to UPKPN Site specific requirements.
The Construction and Services were installed to UKPN Bespoke Standard to Facilitate the Upgrade in Capacity to the 13.5 MVA, to cater for the increasing demand and expansion.
With the two new substations energised the customer’s ring feeders were diverted (with all H&S & HV Safety control measures/system in place) in such a way that there was no interruption to the site’s supply and it’s many thousands of occupants / students.

After energisation of both the new switchrooms, decommission and remove the existing switchgear and demolish the existing switchroom and complete all external works.
The overall project duration was 14 months from the point of award to the final energisation.
